Work History

2000-present Software Engineer Spider Operations, Excite@Home
Designed and implemented custom tools to operate a web spider on a large distributed system, for Excite's search engine, using Perl5, DBI, SSH, Oracle/SQL, and Java. Wrote client-server tools to interact with back-end spider databases, working with large data sets (1 billion rows). Used Perl5 to make SSH calls to control processes on cluster of 250 servers. Developed a suite of spam filtering tools, using a custom-built TCP/IP socket connection to remote Oracle databases, eliminating over 400 million web spam URLs.

1998-present Programmer/Analyst University of California, Irvine, School of Humanities
Unix system administration, Perl programming, SQL, HTML, database design. Created a cgi-driven web interface for department heads to view financial and HR data from the central university data warehouse. Administration of NT, Mac, and Unix servers. Part of technical support team for 800+ PC, Mac, and Unix users.

Ethernet network design, installation, troubleshooting for a private K-12 school with over 400 Mac, PC, and Unix computers, and Cisco 2000 and 5000 series network hardware.
